My grandfather returned home from WW2 and this is where my future Waffle journey began. Money was scarce and ingredients were in short supply, so families played around with lighter variations of batter and dough. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and lived for my weekend treat of Oma’s delectable waffles! After her passing I was gifted with her recipe book and waffle irons. Till this day the recipe has never changed.
In 2008 my husband and I moved to South Africa and I fell in love with The Helderberg. After working in a coffee shop initially, it was time to dust off my waffle irons and do what I love to do …waffling!
Over thirteen years later and customers still come from near and far to The Waffle House in Strand.
